Here are photos of my overnight stay in Jerusalem during the Spring Break (April 2014). I am continually amazed at how much I can fit into one day when travelling.
A map is always a good place to start. Even with this handy guide, I was lost many times!
The entrance to my cheap room.
I was thrilled with such an unusual find and to have my own fruit & vege stall at the stairs.
The market outside my room. There was plenty to watch out the windows and when strolling around in the evening.
Everywhere was made of stone.
One of the entrances to The Old City.
Entrance arch.
There were only a few taxis in this area.
Formidable walls.
Tourists everwhere!
Everywhere outside was clean.
Inside also.
Interesting artwork.
Within the old city, homes were often behind fences and had intriguing courtyards and doors.
Family plaque.
Outdoor corner used as a toilet (and that is what it was intended for).
Orthodox Church.
Wonderful doors.
View from the rooftops looking towards The Mount of Olives.
Four denominations live side by side.
The Old City is divided into four quarters - Jewish; Muslim; Armenian & Christian.
Amazing buildings.
Me getting in the picture!
Everywhere men were dressed in full Jewish regalia.
Columns supporting market place roof. (See picutre below). The paved road ran through the market.
Picture of what the buildings looked like in Jesus day.
Incredible mosaic illustration.
Close up of mosaic.
Another church (with our tour guide).
Wailing Wall!
Soldiers at rest.
Overlooking the Wailing Wall.
More people around this area.
About to enter the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
Artwork.
Inside the church.
Incredible!
Lighting a candle.
Worshippers.
Wanna bees!
Finally found my way back to the Wailing Wall after being lost in the markets for a long time.
The Wailing Wall is the outermost site and last remnant of King Solomon's original Temple, which housed the Ark of the Covenant over 2,000 years ago.
The wall (often called the Western Wall) is divided into two sections. A large one for men and a smaller one for women.
Messages are tucked into cracks in the rocks.
Back at my hotel and out for an evening wander to get some food when I found this lentil shop.
Beans anyone?
